Mens Swimwear

When it comes to mens swimwear, the most commonly seen style is swim trunks or board shorts.  The term refers to somewhat loose fitting shorts that fall right above or right at the knee.  They are generally worn fairly low on the waist, with the waist having an adjustable tie or hook and loop closure.  The colors, designs and patters vary widely by manufacturer, so it is very rare to ever see two pairs that look exactly alike on the same beach.  This is a great style for young and old alike, and it is one that has been popular for decades and is likely to remain popular for years to come.  Some men prefer swim trunks that are slightly shorter, falling at the mid to lower thigh.

There are other types of mens swimwear such as swim briefs, otherwise known as the Speedo.  This style was originally launched for the Olympics, but it quickly spread to beaches worldwide.  Coverage of swim briefs varies from full coverage briefs to thongs or g-string backside and fabric covering only the genitals in the front.  Full coverage swim briefs are most popular in the United States, with thong swim briefs being more popular overseas.  Along the same lines as the swim briefs, a style called the swim jammer is not often seen out in public.  This style is similar to bicycle shorts and is primarily designed to increase speed in competition swimmers.

If you are looking to buy new mens swimwear and swim briefs or swim jammers aren’t your style, go with the board shorts unless you are visiting somewhere exotic on vacation.  Board shorts are safe for any beach in the United States, but there may be local ordinances against thongs.  Besides, it’s a good idea to keep it kid friendly and save your family a little embarrassment!
